Gen Z -The Generation That Knows

There’s a quiet kind of ache that comes with being Gen Z. It’s the hum of notifications that never stop, the pull of a world that’s always on, and the question that hums beneath every post and story — am I enough?
You see, this generation didn’t just grow up with the internet. They grew up through it.
It’s not something they log into. It’s the space they live in — the modern campfire where stories, friendships, and dreams flicker and glow.
Older generations call it a distraction. But to Gen Z, it’s the language of belonging.

The Sound of Connection
There’s research — because there always is — A 2024 Pew Research study shows that 98% of Gen Z own a smartphone, and nearly 70% say they feel most connected to others through digital spaces.
But what’s often missed is the other side of the story — 83% of them also say they feel most “themselves” when they’re offline (Snapchat & Crowd DNA, 2023).
That contradiction? That’s not confusion. That’s the beauty of balance.
They love the feeling of being connected — of knowing what’s happening, of being part of something bigger — but they also crave silence, sunsets, and laughter that doesn’t need a camera to prove it happened.
They’re learning to hold both — the digital and the real — like twin flames in the same hand.

The Pull and the Pause
Ask any Gen Z , and they’ll tell you: sometimes your hand reaches for the app before your mind even agrees. The motion is automatic — thumb to icon, screen to soul. And then that quiet realization: I didn’t even want to open this.

But here’s what people don’t see. They also put the phone down.
They do it when they’re sitting on a terrace at 11 p.m. talking about life,or when the playlist hits just right and the moment feels too real to interrupt. They do it when they realize they’re not escaping — they’re choosing presence.
Because Gen Z doesn’t live under the pressure of social performance — they live under the awareness of it.They know exactly when they’re performing. And they know when they’re done pretending.

Every Generation Had Its Mirror
Once, it was the rock and roll crowd — loud, rebellious, misunderstood.
Then came the 80s dreamers with their Walkmans, drowning in sound and neon.
Later, Millennials curated their lives in pixels — filters, quotes, playlists.
And now, Gen Z.The first generation that never needed to be told what the internet was — because they were born breathing it.
They don’t see the screen as a wall. They see it as a window — one that opens into worlds their parents could never imagine. It’s not a cage. It’s a canvas.
So when people say, “They’re lost,” I can’t help but smile a little. No, they’re not lost. They just found new roads we haven’t learned to read yet.
Think Before You Turn a Generation Into a Trend
Somewhere along the way, “Gen Z” became a punchline — a meme, a hashtag, a way to generalize an entire generation with a swipe and a smirk.
But we need to stop turning a generation’s name into lingo.Because behind every viral “Gen Z moment” is a young person trying to make sense of themselves in a world that’s watching too loudly.
Every time we mock their slang, their habits, their content, we chip away — not at their confidence, but at their self-worth.Think before trolling them on social media.Think before calling them lazy or fragile.
Because someone from this very generation is scrolling through that comment — and wondering if maybe the world will ever see them for who they really are.

What They Want You to Know (as far as I could understand in the short span I have started learning about these YOUNG LEADERS of the future)
They don’t want to be labeled “chronically online.”They don’t want to be told to “go touch grass.”They’re already doing that — while recording a video about the meaning of peace, or making art out of chaos, or simply sitting with their thoughts under a sky that doesn’t need Wi-Fi to shine.
They aren’t broken. They’re bilingual — fluent in both the virtual and the real.
When I sit with Gen Zs during my coaching sessions, I see it every time:they’re not trying to escape the world; they’re trying to understand it.They don’t need advice shouted at them — they need a voice that says, “I see you. You’re doing okay.”
And that’s what I try to do — to help them slow down, see clearly, and find direction without losing the wonder that makes them who they are.
Because the truth is, they’re not afraid of the future. They are the future.
The Real Truth
Gen Z doesn’t need to be found. They were never lost.
They’re navigating a world that changed faster than any generation before them — with courage, curiosity, and the quiet understanding that connection isn’t the opposite of reality. It’s part of it.
And maybe that’s what the rest of us need to learn. To stop trying to pull them out of the digital world —and start learning how beautifully they’re weaving it into their real one.

Personal Note from me-
I write this not as an observer, but as someone walking beside them.Every conversation, every session, every story reminds me that Gen Z doesn’t need fixing — they need space. Space to think. To breathe. To dream out loud.
Through my coaching, I help them find clarity in the noise — to see their strengths, define their goals, and reconnect with who they are beneath the screens and stories.
Because once you really see Gen Z, you realize the truth that everyone’s been missing:They’re not lost. They’re just becoming.
If You’re a Gen Z — or Someone Who Works With Them
If you’re a Gen Z reading this, I hope you know:You are not behind. You are not too online.
You are not too emotional.
You’re growing in a world that’s still learning how to understand you — and that’s brave work.
And if you’re someone who leads, teaches, manages, or mentors Gen Z —pause before you judge.Look closer. You’re witnessing one of the most aware, expressive, and empathetic generations to ever exist. They don’t need to be told how to fit in; they need to be guided to rise into who they already are.
Because Gen Z doesn’t lack direction — they crave clarity. They don’t lack discipline — they seek purpose. And when given trust, space, and the right kind of guidance, they don’t just participate — they transform.
